SIlk painting work shop

This is how I do my painting on a silk scarf.
I use a frame that has a rod at each end which is held in by screws.
By using this frame I get no pin marks on the silk which is great.

Here is a photo of my work area

I have done some painting on the scarf

This a scarf all wet with the non toxic water based paints I use

Here are some comment about my work

And SilkDesignByJane is where it's at. She has amazing and beautiful scarves. Florals, stripes, abstracts, there's all those and more. All of the scarves are silk so they are stylish and soft.

I love so many of these designs. The hand-painted red & blue silk scarf has this watercolor look to it with these beautiful blends of reds and purples and blues. The hand-painted sophisticated striped scarf is this aquatic combination of browns and blues. My favorite is the flower garden silk scarf. The flowers are so simple but the combination of colors makes for a real fashion piece.

If you're in the market for a one-of-a-kind accessory that is hand-painted and beautiful, look no further!

How is silk farmed

I found this information about how silk is farmed and thought it was very interesting. It's amazing to think this is how silk is produced.
I found this piece form the Globe and Mail.
"Shunde is in the silk-producing region of China
Although sericulture, as silk farming is known, does not require either a great deal of land or a great deal of equipment, it does require a great deal of work. The tiny creatures eat only fresh mulberry leaves, and must be fed frequently around the clock as they grow in a matter of weeks to 10,000 times their original size before spinning their famous cocoons. Then workers must tease free the end of the single, continuous, mile-long strand that forms each delicate cocoon, drawing out the thread that eventually becomes lustrous, costly silk."

Hand painted silk cards

I have been creating small cards . I hand hand paint silk paint a piece of silk then cut it to fit in a card.
This card has a leaf impression on silk Which is done like this.
When the silk is wet I place a leaf on the silk also add salt , when the slik dries a leaf mark is left behind.
I think it makes a interesting card for any kind of occasion, since it's blank inside
